Looking and seeing are two different things; To look at something means to gaze your eyes upon or acknowledge its presence. In order to see, not only must you look at the object but you must also understand it and pay attention to it.

This short course of 4 online sessions will help you to:

Gain confidence quickly so that you can take your drawing and painting skills to the next level.

Equip you with a broad understanding  of how to observe your subject and how to record your observations through sketching techniques that can then be applied to give your artwork/painting more meaning and depth.

The course will cover:

The relationship between objects and the space that surrounds them. What to look for when studying a group of objects.  The information we need to know to enable us to  produce a  competent representation.

How to capture/sketch shape, tone, texture by practicing shading techniques and by  using some simple rules.

Understanding light source and how it affects tonal values. Set-up, compose and effectively light still-life objects to provide you with good reference and study material.

Preparing for your final piece.  Subject matter.  Deciding your medium/materials, study pieces.

What you will need:  Paper /sketch book A4 or A3 as preferred.  A range of graphite pencils - 6B to 4H. Derwent do a box set covering this range. Paints: Acrylics or water colour/ selection of different sized brushes.

Technology.

• Art & THRIVE art classes take place in ZOOM.
